ABOUT

In grade school my teacher asked "what period of history would you like to have lived in?" I surprised myself by automatically responding "the Renaissance period" having been moved by works by Dante and Michelangelo.
My interest in art intensified in college when I ventured to Florence for my junior year abroad. I was thrilled and inspired to be immersed in the beauty of the art, sculpture and architecture and surrounded by the actual masterpieces of the Renaissance period.
After receiving my BS in Agriculture, I returned to school for computer science. Oddly, this brought me to drawing, painting and sculpture as cutbacks in the job market gave me the opportunity to study art. I began with drawing classes at the Art Student’s League in NYC.
Having always been inspired by nature this became a major focus for my drawings. I was captivated by the change of seasons; scenes such as the morning light coming through the maple trees and the pink and violet tones of a fresh snowfall.
I especially enjoy painting animals, often paying close attention to their expressive eyes telling me a story. When I began painting, I primarily used oils but soon after tried my hand with pastels and watercolors. My creativity has also drawn me to sculpture both in clay and marble. Since retirement in 2020, I have reconnected to pastels, their vibrant colors creating such beautiful scenes.
Throughout my life and career my artwork has always brought a balance to my life. After studying, at the Silvermine Arts Center, I identified numerous local artists and teachers in order to expand and explore additional techniques and mediums. One teacher and artist I studied with was Frank Bruckmann who organized live model drawing classes in his studio and plein aire groups around Southern Connecticut. It's great to be with fellow artist sharing our work.
Other notable artists I have studied with include: Peter Seltzer, Karen Israel, Alain Picard and Sara Aldouby. Each of these artists have given me their own unique perspective and have allowed me to expand my own artistic repertoire.
